Where to Build First in Tower Defend

The map never changes and the path never forks, which means there is a correct opening. Here is the placement order that survives wave twenty.

Tower Defend gives you a fixed map, a fixed path, twenty waves and a budget that is never quite enough. Because nothing is random, the opening build is a solvable problem — and most players lose at wave fourteen because of a decision they made in the first thirty seconds.

The two corners are worth double

Follow the path and you will find two ninety-degree turns. A tower placed on the inside of a corner keeps enemies in its range roughly twice as long as a tower on a straight. Everything else on the map is a worse investment than these two spots, so buy them in the first two waves even if it leaves you with one tower.

Upgrade before you expand

A level-three tower on a corner out-damages three level-one towers on the same stretch, and it costs less. The reliable curve is: two corner towers, take both to level two, add one support tower at the second corner, then push the first corner to level three. Wide, thin defences collapse at wave twelve.

Read the wave before you spend

Fast enemies arrive before armoured ones. If a wave is fast, damage matters less than coverage — a cheap rapid-fire tower beats an expensive cannon. When the armoured waves start, the reverse is true. Holding twenty percent of your budget in reserve so you can answer the wave you are actually facing is worth more than any single upgrade.

Do not blanket the map

Even coverage looks reassuring and performs badly. Three overlapping towers at the first corner kill more enemies than six towers spread evenly, because damaged enemies are re-shot by the next tower rather than walking past it. Concentration is the whole strategy.

The wave-nineteen trap

Almost every failed run dies at nineteen. By then you have spent everything and the last wave is a mixture of armoured and fast units that no single tower type answers. Keep one upgrade’s worth of coins back and spend it the instant the wave preview shows a mixed group.
